Darian Lajoie. Memory, Obscurred; 5x7 inches (11.5 x 9.5 framed); 2014; acrylic, paper. $65 This piece is acrylic on canvas, with a criss-crossing of shredded words from old books, arranged in a kind of maze, and overlaid with hand-made mulberry paper.. The painting reminded me of small compartments of memory, if our memories were all in tiny boxes in our minds, each with words running around the edges explaining and providing meaning and context. The overlay of paper webbing obscures the sharp edges of the "memories," making them fuzzy and harder to see or recall. I think these are very old memories, obscured by time, and perhaps, sadly, dementia.
