Darian Lajoie. Strangers meeting on a train, speaking different languages; 12x12 inches; 2015; paper, acrylic, glass. (treated with protective sealant) SOLD This is a piece I created after a trip to Europe and I was inspired by the thought of a connection made on a train with a complete stranger. The image seeks to evoke a halting conversation by two people who have made an intense connection despite language barriers by presenting the coastline in shades of light and darker paper with words in both English and French representing the conversation. The coastline is represented in shades of blue and is meant to convey the look of a topographical map of the sea coast and the handmade paper has the look of a tray liner that might have had two glasses of wine staining the map that includes hand written graphics that portray an indication (and perhaps an invitation?) to a meeting place. Will a liaison occur? The possibility is delicious…
